For those who didn’t hear what happened over the weekend, the news that came out of Fort Collins made yours truly not too proud to be a CSU Ram. Three current football players apparently got into a fight and badly injured 4 students outside of a house party Friday night. The pictures of the damage done to these students is not a pleasant sight to see, and new head football coach Jim McElwain may be wondering what he has gotten himself into. Juniors Nordly Capi, Mike Orakpo, and Colton Paulhaus have all been suspended indefinitely, as all three may have suddenly played their final games in green and gold. To be fair, all of the facts are not completely known, and nobody should rush to judgment. However, it does not look good, and this program that has gone 3-9 in each of the past three years is now dealing with a terrible situation. Capi and Orakpo were key contributors to the Rams defense last year, and were going to be the leaders on that side of the ball in 2012. There is obviously a very good chance that all three players will be dismissed from the team, expelled from the university, and may face criminal charges. This has quickly become a national story, and obviously not the kind of noteriety that fans and CSU alums would want. Coach McElwain has not even coached a game yet at CSU, but already has some serious headaches to deal with. Unfortunately, it looks as if supporters of Colorado State may have some very dark days in the coming weeks and months.
