Chicago, Il. The day is finally here, as Peyton Manning will officially begin his reign as the quarterback of the Denver Broncos tonight. It has been almost five months since he decided that Denver would be where he would finish off his future Hall of Fame career, and Broncos fans couldn’t be happier with his decision. Tonight it all begins. The long wait to see #18 in the orange and blue in albeit, an exhibition game, is finally here. The realization that he will be “manning” the Broncos offense for the next few years will also finally sink in once he lines up under center at some point in the first quarter in Chicago. Preseason game #1 is always fun for football fans, but it is a big tease as well. Just as you are getting comfy in your favorite chair, the starters have gotten their work in, and are typically done by the end of the first quarter. Wanna see Peyton tonight do his thing versus the Bears? Better tune in right at kickoff, and better not blink, because he won’t be out there for long.

Tonight is all about Manning, as it should be. The guy hasn’t played against real live defenders trying to take his head off since January of 2011. It’s going to be fun to see him sling it, and see if he still has it. Does he show layers of rust, or is he back to being the Sheriff, and one of the best QB’s going today? We may not find out tonight, and probably won’t really, as his time on the field will be extremely limited. The game in Chicago will be intriguing on several other levels as well. How will the backup QB’s look against live bullets? Is Knowshon Moreno all the way back from his ACL tear? Does Brandon Stokley still have something left? How will the tight end tandem of Jacob Tamme and Joel Dreessen fit in? Is Ronnie Hillman really Denver’s version of Darren Sproles? How does Tracy Porter look on the opposite side of Champ Bailey? Is defensive lineman Derek Wolfe going to make an impact in 2012? All of these questions, and many others, may begin to be answered tonight. The NFL is back, and for Denver Broncos fans, the “Peyton Era” is ready to commence.
