Denver, CO – After Sunday’s 3-2 win over the Dodgers, the Colorado Rockies claimed 2 out of 3 in this series and have now won 6 of 7. They are no longer double digit games behind L.A., as they now sit 9.5 games behind the N.L. West leading Dodgers. We are roughly 1/3 of the way through the 2012 season, and things are starting to take a little bit of shape in each division. Things are pretty close to how I had envisioned them back in early April, as this was how I believed the National League West would end up at the finish of this season….
1 – San Francisco
2 – Arizona
3 – Colorado
4 – Los Angeles
5 – San Diego
- And this is where the current standings are after today’s games……
1 – Los Angeles
2 – San Francisco
3 – Arizona
4 – Colorado
5 – San Diego
- After a torrid start, the Dodgers have come back to the pack a bit and only lead the Giants by 3 games. Matt Kemp landing on the disabled list has hurt L.A., and getting him back healthy will be paramount for them to stay at or near the top. I still feel good about my pick of the Giants to win the West. They are playing steady ball and probably still have the best pitching in the division. Arizona is just ahead of Colorado, and should be around the middle of the pack all year. The Rockies have already had a handful of wild, high-scoring games, but their lack of pitching will be their downfall all year. San Diego is just brutal, and at last check, they as a team had fewer home runs than did Josh Hamilton of Texas. The Padres should stay in the cellar all season long. All in all, a pretty good division…..one that I expect San Francisco to take over sometime in July.
