Denver, CO – The Sports Column, located at 1930 Blake St. www.denversportscolumn.com is one of the best sports bars in Denver. As a matter of fact Sports Column has been voted the BEST sports bar in Denver (5280 magazine, Metromix, Westword) and has even been voted into the top 25 sports bars in America by the Sporting News and Sports Illustrated. Sports Column is one of those rare sports bars where you could literally spend all day until close and be entertained all day.
One great thing with the Sports Column is the amount of sports they show on a huge selection of TVs throughout the bar. Not only local sports, but a variety of out of town games along with all of the major sports packages so you won’t miss any game. While checking out a Colorado Rockies game you can look to your right and catch the Red Sox vs. Yankees.
Drink specials are the way to go at Sports Column. Happy Hour is M-F from 3:30PM to 6PM and nightly from 10PM to Close. Specials are $2.75 house wine, well and domestic drafts; $3.25 Colorado brewed drafts and $4.50 Jager Bombs, Tuaca Bombs and Three Olives Vodka Drinks. Thirsty Thursday is from 9PM-1PM and includes $1.50 house wine, well, domestic drafts and Three Olives vodka drinks; $3 Colorado Micro Drafts and $3 Jager Bombs, Tuaca Bombs and Three Olives bombs. Saturday and Sunday until 2PM Sports Column offers build your own bloody Mary bar and BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS!
The food menu is not your standard bar fare. With daily specials from Green Chile Enchiladas, Tuna Melts, Lasagna and Fish Tacos there is a wide variety to choose from. Standard daily appetizers include Potato Skins, Sliders with Fries, Teriyaki Beef Bites and Frickles (deep fried pickles). The appetizer menu also offers a selection of Lavosh which is a thin crisp bread topped with various toppings such as the Denver topped with slow roasted sirloin, red onions, Hatch Valley green Chiles and a buttermilk horseradish sauce.
The main menu is HUGE with various soups including Green Chile and Corn Chowder. Salads include a Cobb and Caesar with various dressings. My favorite section of the menu is the Rockies Ballpark Section. Here you can order Rockies Fries topped with red or green chili, melted cheeses, tomatoes and jalapenos. Also the Rockies Section offers Ball Park Pretzel, Rockies Burger, Bratwurst and a Chicago Dog.
The Crowd Favorites section includes a vast selection of burgers and sandwiches. Favorites include a Hatch Valley Cheeseburger, Pork Tenderloin Sandwich, the Denver Dip, and a Chicken Salad Croissant. One of my favorites is the Iowa Pork Pretzel which is a soft pretzel with slow roasted pork tenderloin, havarti cheese, whole grain maple mustard, red onion and tomato. AWESOME sandwich.
Any of you that are true Denver sports fans have surely been to the Sports Column as they have been around for 18 years and is one of the oldest bars in Lodo. Even if you don’t have a ticket to the game, Sports Column is a great destination for your game time eats and drinks.
