Lakewood, CO – Fox Hollow Golf Course www.lakewood.org offers amazing Front Range views coupled with one of the most challenging golf courses in Denver. Located at 13410 W. Morrison Road, Fox Hollow is a short drive from Denver and a nice escape from the heat of the city. Offering locals a discounted rate of $43 for 18 holes and non-residents a greens fee of $50 during the week and $48/$55 during the weekend, Fox Hollow is actually a bargain for the quality of the course.
For the avid golfer looking for a challenge be sure to ask to have the Links course be a part of your 18 hole option. The Links course offers a target style of golf where accuracy is at a premium. If you are looking to stretch your ability hit them from the championship Black tees and test your distance and precision. Combine the Links course with the Canyon course and you will have a rating of 73.0 and a slope of 137 making that combo one of the largest slopes in the Denver area.
On the Links course expect some holes that may seem like they are not very long according to the score card but add a ton of yardage due to up hill slopes and bending fairways. Hole 4 will stretch you out to 537 yards from the Blacks and expect to hope for par but settle for bogie. Moving on to hole 7, prepare to hit a bomb to reach the second fairway or lay up for a long second shot to the 427 yard green. For the greens you may want to opt for your pool cue as they are fast and straight. If you are reading a break, ignore your intuition and aim straight as there is nary a break on these greens.
Moving on to the Canyon course the challenge lessens a bit but there are a few holes that may tear the average golfer. The number one handicap hole is number 5, a 445 yard par 4 hole. Overlook your want to break out the driver and use a 3 wood or hybrid to lay up next to the marshal sitting in his cart. The hole moves dramatically down hill with a large water hazard to clear May players may want to hit two shots to position themselves for a shorter attempt to the green hoping for bogie. For the big hitters after your initial drive, man up and go for the green with a big second shot. The green is reachable with a little luck from the golfing Gods. Once past number 5 golfers have the chance to make up some shots with the least challenging part of the course.
If you are looking for some challenging golf, give Fox Hollow a shot and be sure to bring every club in the bag.
