Milwaukee, WI. – Don’t look now, but the Colorado Rockies are starting to win. Not just a few games here and there, but they are winning series. Baseball experts constantly emphasize not just winning games, but taking series’. After some rough starts out of the gate, the Rockies pitching staff is starting to do their work late into games, giving the bullpen the chance to close out games with Rex Brothers and Matt Belisle setting up Raphael Betancourt for the close.
Michael Cuddyer is proving to be one of the best free agent pickups potentially ever for the Rockies. Cuddyer was known for coming up big in Minnesota and he came up big again late in the game against the Brewers. With the score tied – in the top of the eighth, Cuddyer drove a two run double into the gap in left, center field plating two runs to put the Rockies up for good. Carlos Gonzalez would add an insurance run in the ninth with a single up the middle to score one additional run and the Rockies took the game 4-1 and now go into Pittsburgh with some momentum to face ex-skipper Clint Hurdle.
Jeremy Guthrie threw 7 strong innings only giving up 1 run and only 3 hits, lowering his ERA to 5.92 and improving his record to 2-1 on the season. Jamie Moyer is slotted to face the Pirates later today if the rain stops in Pittsburgh. With Juan Nicasio going tomorrow, the Rockies look to take another series and keep pushing the 12-4 Los Angeles Dodgers, sitting 3.5 games ahead of the Rockies. LA and Colorado start a 3 game series a week from today for their first match up of the year.
