Boulder, CO. The University of Colorado football team has reached what may be the lowest point in school history. With losses to in state rival Colorado State and embarrassing upsets at the hands of Sacramento State and a blowout by Fresno State, the CU buffs are spiraling. Head coach Jon Embree is feeling the lack of good recruits and may be losing new recruits on a daily basis as no star high school players are targeting CU as their next stop in their football careers.
Ex head coach Bill McCartney delivered a supportive speech last Tuesday at the press luncheon at Boulder’s Millennium Harvest House. McCartney is the last coach to really bring the football program at CU into relevance with a shared National Championship. McCartney gave his full support to Embree saying he is the coach to bring them out of the the gutter. Embree played for McCartney at CU and should be given a chance to bring the program back to relevancy. He brings a player friendly coach approach to the game but will need a couple of years to get his own recruits into Boulder before he should be judged on his performance.
Colorado begins their Pac 12 schedule this Saturday against Washington State in Pullman, Washington. After Washington State, the Buffs have a tough road to haul as they follow up with UCLA, Arizona State and then USC – a brutal schedule to say the least. Unfortunately it looks as if the Buffs will be 0-6 to start the season and may struggle to even win a game. At this point the best chance for a win will be 10 games in against the University of Arizona, but may struggle there as well.
Embree needs to be given a chance, but success will not be a factor this year or even next year. Moving to the Pac 12 did not do the football program any favors other than getting more exposure to potential recruits. Having an ex player in house as coach is a positive for alumni but there need to be some positive results at some point this year and next for boosters to put their trust in the coaching staff.

The coaching staff will just have to take mediocre high school recruits and coach them into champions.
