Lodo, Denver CO, – ChoLon Asian Bistro www.cholon.com is a new restaurant in Lodo offering a great alternative for pre-game eats and drinks. They are located at 1555 Blake Street, a short 5 blocks from Coors Field. If you are tired of the regular dogs and burgers before a Rockies game, take a look at ChoLon for great modern Asian food and a great happy hour.
ChoLon offers a very distinct menu that puts a twist on your traditional Asian food. Start your meal out with some appetizers. I like to order the Soup Dumplings. They come in a traditional bamboo steam basket and look like a traditional Chinese dumpling. But inside is a succulent French Onion Soup with Gruyere cheese and a rich onion broth. Along with the dumplings, order the Curried Duck Spring Rolls. Amazing richness from the duck paired with the Cilantro dipping sauce is a great contrast from the soup dumplings.
Entrees offer small plates and large plates and again give the patron a twist from your regular heavy Asian food. Small plates include Yellow Curry Mussels with Pork Belly Fries, Beef Tartare, Vegetable Fried Rice and Shrimp and Lobster Chow Fun. Large plates vary from Steamed Sole with Bok Choy, Black Pepper Short Ribs with Chow Fun and Kung Pao Chicken – one of my favorites.
Happy Hour is the best time to go – not crowded and there is usually plenty of room street side on their open patio. ChoLon offers half off drink specials and half off many appetizers. For under $20 per person you can chow down on some great food and drink specials.
Give ChoLon a shot on your next trip to Lodo before a Rockies game.
