The dating period is officially over, and Peyton Manning is apparently ready to get married. After many teams courted Peyton the past two weeks, he has made his decision, and it is the Denver Broncos. The influence of John Elway, the solid young team, and the ability to win now had to be the determining factors for Manning. Denver now becomes one of the top contenders in the AFC, and the hands down favorite in the AFC West. The free agent signings may not be done, as rumors have already begun that Denver is also interested in bringing in former Colts Jeff Saturday and Dallas Clark.
The other obvious question now is what to do with Tim Tebow? The feeling here is that Peyton probably made it very clear to the Broncos front office that he would not sign here if Timmy was still going to be around. Although Denver really has no leverage, expect them to trade Tebow for a middle round pick before next months draft. It was a fun ride last season with Tim at the helm, but the opportunity to land Peyton Manning is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It also gives Elway the perfect escape plan to justify letting Tim go. Nobody in their right mind can argue that a healthy Peyton Manning is not a huge upgrade over Tebow.
Broncos fans, this is a historic day in franchsie history, as well as NFL history. Peyton Manning becoming a Denver Bronco (THAT has not sunk in yet) has now changed the landscape of the entire league. The Broncos will be the talk of the NFL for weeks and months to come, and will undoubtedly be in several prime time games this coming season. The #18 jerseys in orange and blue should be hitting the store shelves by weeks end, and the Manning mania can now begin. It’s an exciting new chapter for any Bronco fan, one that hopefully ends with a Lombardi trophy or two!
